Dear Friends,
Here at St Peter and St Paul’s, we are entering a new season in the Church’s year; the season of remembrance. At the beginning of November, we are remembering our own loved ones in a special All Souls Evensong on November 5, at 5:30pm. Please let me know if you would like to add a loved one to our list of names. This month we will also be commemorating Remembrance Sunday on November 12 starting at 10:50am. All are most welcome to join us. Unfortunately this year, war again seems much closer to us because of what’s happening in Ukraine and in the Holy Land. There are many other ongoing conflicts around the world, including Sudan, Ethiopia and the Yemen, and other nations such as Syria and Afghanistan are still suffering the devastating consequences of war. The terrible images on our tv screens remind us of the sad realities of war, and bring home to us the severe consequences for ordinary people. So this year, as well as remembering those from our village who gave their lives for our country in the two World Wars, and all conflicts since, and also remembering those known personally to us, we will be thinking of and praying for all those suffering today, and praying for peace. For many fighting in the two World Wars, Christian faith helped them through the horrors of war. Their faith gave them hope that things would be better and that good would overcome the darkness in the end. It is this hope we share today. Christians believe faith gives us strength, consolation and hope to carry on through the most difficult of times.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning time, we will remember them.
God Bless,
Clare
